"Straymouse?" Meowed Raccoonkit as she toddled into the elders den, her small ears perked and her amber eyes wide.
"Yes Raccoonkit?" Purred the elder who had lifted her head from a meal of salmon the clan had fetched from Shoreclan streams. She swiped her tongue around her jaw and gave her whiskers a small twitch.
"Straymouse can you tell me the story of Won-she-tong again? I love that story." Mewed Raccoonkit as she settled in next to the elder, her hopes high of hearing the story of the master.
Starymouse lifted her ears and smiled giving a nod. "Yes of course Raccoonkit, I would be happy to tell you of the master again." Meowed Straymouse as she took a breath and begun the story.
"Long ago when the Earth started to take its first breaths lived a great master who watched over the land from the top of his mountain and held the wisdom of One-thousand lives. This masters name was Won-she-tong; a creature that was as long as a thunderpath and as mighty as all the clans combined and more. His pelt was like a fishes, covered in scales and smooth but his legs allowed him to run as fast as the wind and swim with the mightiest rives and his jaw was as strong as a thousand cars." Meowed Straymouse before she was interrupted by the enthusiastic kit next to her.
"Is all that really true! If he was so mighty then what happen to him!" Squealed Raccoonkit.
Starymouse purred and gave the kits head a lick. "Just listen Raccoonkit, we will get there now, where was I? Oh yes."
"Animals all across the lands looked to the mountains in hope that Won-she-tong would come down and share all his wisdom with them, but the master refused to share his wisdom with just anyone."
"And and!" Mewed Raccoonkit jumping up and down now excited about the story, her eyes round with wonder. "I wanna know I wanna know!"
Straymouse smiled and shook her head back and forth slowly. "As the tales say in order to be granted a small amount of his wisdom, you would have to climb to his cave on top of the tallest mountain and bring him an offering of three rabbits and the fur of a black bear. When he would receive the offerings he would twist around you like a snake then stare deep into your soul, reading your past, your goals and your future. If you failed you would not return to your home alive but if you did he would show you what you wish to know. As Won-she-tong got older he grew weaker and he feared that his legend would fade with his body so he looked to the stars and asked the heavens for a second chance."
"And?" Mew Raccoonkit, now sitting down looking at the elder, her skinny tail swishing back and forth.
"And his wish was granted. When he took his last breath it was said that he was transferred into another body. A cats body where he was granted a new life along with the power of nine more. When he re-awoke in a cats body he thanked the heavens for granting his wish and called himself from that moment on Brightstar. In honor of his new lives where he could walk to earth for longer and brighten the lives of many others and the stars who gave them to him. As words caught on more of his new kind followed him and soon Netherclan was formed and had made there home in the cave where he had formerly made his home."
When Straymouse had finished her tale Raccoonkit had curled up and felled asleep, her small belly rising and falling. Starymouse bent her head and gave the kit a like and whispered over the kit, "May the Masters watch over you in your journey of life my little one."
