When his eyes opened, he saw his sister looking down at him, her face lit with excitement and he understood why, today was the day they were becoming warriors. He got to his paws, giving his long lithe body a stretch to wake up, his heart piercing with a slight stab of guilt at what he was planning to do after his ceremony.
“Calm down Violetpaw, we still have to wait for the clan to wake up before Heavystar can give us our names; it's barely dawn yet and your already bouncing around like a frog running from the fresh-kill pile.” He meowed sternly, lifting his one white paw and giving it a lick before running it over his ear. He was just as excited as she was, but he refused to show any sign of weakness now, he was going to be a warrior so he had to take it seriously.
When he glanced to the side and saw the slight sadness in her eyes he flattened his ears and sighed. “I'm sorry for snapping, I’m just worried I won't be a good enough warrior and if I don't take this seriously then I will just be a joke.” He meowed a knot in his throat as he spoke.
Violetpaw seemed to understand for she padded over and pressed to his side giving off a raspy purr and licking his ear. He desperately wanted to hear her speak but he knew it would never happen, she was born a silent kit and it was not going to change just because he wanted it to. He forced a smile, and gave her ear a lick back before he heard there voices sounded from the entrance of the apprentice den. His eyes met his fathers who were bright with happiness, “It's time you two.” He meowed and padded off into the clearing. Coldpaw looked to his sister and she gave him the same look he gave to her. One of pure excitement before both bounded out of the apprentices den, pelts brushed against one another like they had always done for so many moons.
When the sun hit him he had to blink so the white light cleared and he saw his father Whitefoot sitting in the clearing speaking with a few other warriors, one being Chirpwing, a she-cat he had never liked and she seemed to know it for every time his father was off she gave him a sneer. She was desperate to find a mate but no cat ever seemed to say anything other then him and even then he was looked down on as if he had just told a joke about killing a kit. He flattened his ears and let out a small growl when he caught the she-cats eye before he padded over.
“How do you two feel about your big day? There have been many warrior ceremony in the past of course but I have a feeling this one is going to be special.” Meowed Lightsnow, a beautiful white she-cat with light gray splotches all over her coat, when ever he saw her it made his pelt heat up but he never really spoke with her for he feared of getting close to soon.
“Uh...excited definitely, same as any apprentice on there day of warrior-ship.” He meowed glancing down at his paws for a second. Trying to not catch her light blue eyes that resembled frozen over ice, knowing if he did he would look like an idiot in front of all the clan.
“Lightsnow is right, today feels special, like something that has never happen before will pop up.” Meowed Whitefoot, a smile on his face. Your mother would be so proud of you both.”
Violetpaw jumped up and ran to her fathers side, giving a raspy purr and a few lick as if agreeing and hoping she could be here for the big day. Whitefoot smiled and gave her head a lick which made him angry for some reason, he felt that his father preferred his sister over him, no matter how hard he tried. He clentched his teeth and opened up his mouth to make a remark but then a movment from the Quietfalls caught his eyes and he shut his mouth, and listened as Heavystar called.
“All cats old enough to catch there own prey gather benith the Quietfalls for a clan meeting!” She yowled, her meowed echoing through the camp like it always did when she called to the cats she watched over.
Coldpaw turned and got to his paws, walking away from the small group of cats and sitting down just under the cliff. Feeling Violetpaw sit next to him he tensed, he wanted to leave camp and see what he could find outside but he had almost seen everything. His ears twitched as he listened to his clan mates murmur and settle down to listen to there leader, his ears perked when only Heavystar spoke.
“Shoreclan will be welcoming two new warriors today!” She begun, her chest puffed as if she herself were being given her name again. “Coldpaw, Violetpaw please step forward.” She meowed, sitting down and placing her tail under her stump of a leg for support. Coldpaw got up and padded forward, his blue eyes piercing up the falls and to his leader waiting for her to speak, a sudden hate biting him again making him want to yowl,“What you worthless kittypet?” He had no reason to hold hate against his leader, but for some reason everything just made his pelt crawl as if he was filled with maggots.
“Both of you have trained hard in the way of the warrior code and both your mentors think it is time for you to bare your warrior names.” His leader paused to let everything be brought in before she continued. “Coldpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and server your clan at all costs? Even if it means you life?” She meowed, his leaders ears twitching as he gave a nod and a, “I do.”
He saw Heavystar smile and listened to her go on, “Then from this moment on you will be known as Coldblood, Starclan welcomes you as a full warrior of Shoreclan.” As the clan chanted his name his puffed his chest feeling empowered, but stopped when Hevaystar went on with his sisters name.
“Violetsky, do you promise to up hold the warrior code and server your clan even if I means your life?” He watched his sister nod rapidly and Heavystar continued, “The from this moment on you will be known as Violetsky, Starclan welcomes you as a full warrior of Shoreclan.”
When the clan stopped chanting there names he shoved his way through the cats that came to greet him until his father stepped in front of him and gave his cheek a lick, “I'm so proud of you Coldblood, you have become a strong warrior just like your mother, she would be so proud.”
He froze inside for a moment, he had not expected such a response from his father so quickly. He blinked and smiled, “I hope so, training is hard and now I'm finally out of it.” He meowed forcing a purr. With the stop to talk many other cats had made there way over to speak as well, one being his sister which made his ears flatten. He watched as she rubbed against there father and waited.
He watched as all the cats made there way around his sister and threw every compliment they had on them at her, leaving him on the side lines. He clenched his teeth and let his claws dig into the dirt, his anger growing. “Why do they always give her all the attention!” He got to his paws, putting away his claws and making his jaw fall into a straight emotionless state. “I'm going to try to speak with mother from the Thundering Falls.” He meowed and instantly took off out the camp entrance. He could feel the clans eyes as he left as if there stares were chasing after him he went from a trot to a sprint in fear there stares would follow him.
He came to a stop when he reached the claw rock, he had never understood the stories of how this rock came to be, but he never understood many things about the elders tales. Coldblood looked up the towering claw and growled, his own claws coming out to dig into the dirt. He felt all his anger coming back, and all he wanted was to run from Shoreclan, but if his clan were to catch up to him he had no reason of leaving other then his sister getting everything which sounded mouse-brained even to him. He let his body relax and he say down, raising a paw and placing it on his head. “Oh Starclan, why do I get so angry and have such thoughts?” He muffled to himself and sat in silence.
He perked his ears when the bushes behind him gave off a rustle. He jumped to his paws and his claws came out, this would be how he would leave his clan. He could feel his eyes turning to slits and a brush against his side, voices in his ears whispering to him terrible things, “Kill her Colddblood, show her what your name really means, show her what a real warrior can do.” With every word he felt empowered, his body tensing until he lept with a battle yowl. Coldblood felt his claws sink into the skin of a cat and blood filled his sent. He could feel the power washing through him like waves from the sea, the screams filling his ears. He took a few breaths and let out a laugh as he turned to his enemy to see his sister lieing in her own blood, looking at him in horror. She had a large gash along her neck where he had let his claws sink in, he saw her mouth moving but everything was a muffle meowed until his head cleared and he heard her singing, the last lines were “You will ALWAY be my hero.”
The line made him blink as his paws moved for him. When he opened his eyes he was over his sister, his mouth speaking while he thought, “I'm so sorry Violetsky, I'm sorry I have failed to be your hero.” He listened to himself speak, his ears flattening as he did, “I'm sorry Violetsky, but your death will be my reasoning for abandoning my clan, I hope you can spend time with mother in Starclan.” He lifted his paw to finished what he had started when he turned to see a tom with the sent of Badgerclan staring at him in horror.
Coldblood dropped his paw and looked on at him with a blank stare until he ran over, shoving his away and stood over his sister, growling and anger in his eyes as he yowled at him. “Back off! You will have to go through me before you kill her!” Coldblood looked on for a moment longer not sure why a Badgerclan tom was standing over his sister in a protective stance or why he was in Shoreclan territory in the first place, his training telling him to chase him off Shoreclan land but he knew that he was no longer a warrior.
“Heh, I will see you later, Violetsky.” He sneered and took off through the forest, heading straight of the town not wanting to pick a fight with a cat out of his clan and not wanted to stick around till his father made an appearance. He could feel the forest under his paws as he ran, his eyes still slits he grinned and let out a dark laugh.
“Good-bye, Shoreclan, I will meet you on the battle field.”
